We have two runners over the jumps at Hexham on Friday, where the going is currently considered heavy, soft in places, so stamina will be at a premium. We also have one runner on the all weather at Newcastle, on the Tapeta, which is riding as standard.
Kildrum was last seen when winning by 17 lengths over this course and distance back in May, and although the race fell apart, the handicapper did the right thing by only raising him 1lb. Kildrum was winning that day on good ground, but he is also a proven heavy ground performer. When he won in May he was in a first time visor, which is now replaced by cheek pieces, which he has worn on numerous occasions. He runs at 12.25.pm, in the 0-100 conditional jockeys handicap hurdle, over three miles, with Emma Smith-Chaston taking the ride.
Our other Hexham runner is You Say Its Over, who goes to post for the 0-100 handicap hurdle, over two miles and seven furlongs, with the champion jockey Brian Hughes retaining the ride. You Say Its Over has now raced for us on five occasions since arriving from Ireland in the spring, where he raced in seven point to points, finishing third twice. He has never raced on ground this soft for us, but has finished third on heavy going in Ireland, in March of last year.
25 miles down the road at Newcastle Ring Fenced will make her fourth start for us at 3.08.pm, in the 0-70 handicap, over the extended one mile and four furlongs, with Aiden Brookes retaining the ride. Ring Fenced is now 8lb below her opening mark for us, and this step back up in trip will hold no fears, judged on the best of her form when trained elsewhere.
