TWO TO NOTTINGHAM ON THURSDAY.

Red Amapola made a very satisfactory start to her racing career when staying on over seven furlongs at Wetherby 16 days ago, so this step up of a furlong to a mile will suit. Red Amapola runs in the 2.45.pm novices stakes, with our stable apprentice jockey Aiden Brookes taking the ride on her for the first time. This race is probably stronger than the one at Wetherby, but we would hope to see her build on that debut.

We also run Stormin Norman who goes to post at 4.30.pm, for a 0-70 'Hands and Heels' apprentice handicap over 14 furlongs, with Aiden Brookes able to claim 5lb. Stormin Norman had shown he has his own ideas about the game on a couple of occasions recently, but there was nothing not to like about his latest effort at Ripon 22 days ago, when he was badly hampered inside the final furlong, which probably cost him the race. This was a return to the kind of form Stormin Norman is capable of, with the only slight worry this time being the drop back in trip.

Good luck to the connections, Miss Rebecca Dennis, and The Monday Club.

RED AMAPOLA 31 March 2018. Marcel-Si Belle. Owner-Miss Rebecca Dennis.

Red Amapola is the eighth and latest offspring of her dam to see the racecourse, four of which have made the winners enclosure, including the BHA 87 rated The Gill Brothers. Her dam was a well above average performer on the racecourse, winning twice, and finishing second in Listed company in Germany in 2008, and earning a best BHA rating of 95. Red Amapola's sire is Marcel, who won the Racing Post Trophy in 2015. He is a second season sire, and has only had eight runners to date, two of which have already won. Coincidentally we also train Creative Mojo, another filly from his first crop.

Red Amapola has raced on just one occasion to date, making her debut at Wetherby in June 2021 over seven furlongs, when staying on in a promising manner to finish sixth, eight and three quarter lengths behind the winner, giving real hope that she has an exciting future.
