The going for Newcastle on Monday is currently described as good, good to soft in places.
Beat The Edge is probably the quirkiest horse currently in training, as he once again reminded us at Sedgefield 11 days ago, when after going easily two out, he predictably refused to go and win the race, instead curling up under his rider and letting himself be outpaced up the short run in. If Beat The Edge wanted to win he would, as he has lots more ability than his current mark of 85 would suggest. He runs at 4.30.pm, in the 0-100 handicap chase, over two miles and four furlongs, with Brian Hughes retaining the ride.
Belle Na Bann is our other representative at 5.00.pm, in the 0-100 conditional jockeys handicap hurdle, over the extended two miles, with her regular rider Joshua Thompson in the saddle. Belle Na Bann who is now 1lb lower than her last winning mark from January 2024, ran well when second at Catterick back in January, but she hasn't matched that in two subsequent starts. She is a course and distance winner, and a return to her best will see her bang there.
