We send two to Sedgefield for their jumps meeting on ground that is currently described as good, good to soft in places, and we have a runner in the evening at Newcastle, where the Tapeta surface is riding standard to slow.
Celestial Reign will make his jumps and stable debut at 2.00.pm, at Sedgefield in the novices hurdle, over the extended two miles, with Brian Hughes taking the ride. Celestial Reign has had four runs on the flat in maidens in Ireland as a two and three year old, with his standout run coming on his second start when finishing an excellent second earning a RPR of 78. His two runs since were nowhere near as good, but if he can match his second placing now over hurdles, he will make up into an above average performer.
Beat The Edge is his own worst enemy, who after hitting the front will quickly begin to pull himself up, thinking he has done enough. The difficult trick is to not let him take the lead until the very last moment. Probably easier said than done. Beat The Edge who remains on a good looking handicap mark, goes to post for the 0-105 handicap chase at 4.20.pm, over two miles and five furlongs, with Brian Hughes, who has ridden him on three previous occasions, back in the saddle.
At Newcastle, Value Added runs at 5.30.pm, in the 0-85 handicap, over one mile and two furlongs, with Aiden Brookes retaining the ride. Value Added was the winner of a novices stakes at Wolverhampton back in July 2023, for which he received a handicap mark of 85, which is 11lb more than now. He made his stable debut at Southwell 26 days ago, which was his first start in seven months, so he is entitled to have come on from that.
