We have three runners at Thirsk on Saturday, where the going is currently described as good.
Carnival Zain will carry top weight in the 0-90 handicap. over seven furlongs at 4.17.pm, with Aiden Brookes retaining the ride. Carnival Zain was the winner of five races last season, which saw his mark climb from 64 to his current rating of 91, which was the mark he raced off on his seasonal debut when finishing a very respectable fifth at Thirsk two weeks ago. The form of that race (the Thirsk Hunt Cup) has worked out well, and once again Carnival Zain has been lucky with the draw, but he does remain on his highest mark, and will need a personal best to win this.
Musicality failed to fire in six starts in her first season of running for us last year, and so starts this season from a very attractive mark of 55, which is 22lb lower than when she arrived at the yard a year last spring. Musicality goes to post for the 4.52.pm, a 0-60 handicap over six furlongs, with Aiden Brookes in the saddle. Six furlongs is a bare minimum for her, but any signs of a return to form will be worth noting, with her current handicap mark being so lenient.
Sparkle In His Eye had a very productive season last year winning on four occasions, which has seen his mark climb by 11lb, which is very fare in the circumstances. Three of those wins came on the All Weather, but he also won once on the turf, and there will be no ground issues to worry about here. He has drawn well in stall 4, but will have to put up a new personal best to take this on his seasonal debut. The race is a 0-75 handicap over one mile, with Aiden Brookes retaining the ride.
