There are not many races won by the horse who is two lengths down at the last, as there is only a 110 yards run in at Sedgefield, but Royle Steel pulled off that rare feat at that track on Wednesday afternoon, under a well judged ride from the champion jockey Brian Hughes, who got him home by a neck. As I suggested yesterday, Royle Steel is now operating from 20lb lower than when finishing a four and a half lengths third at Catterick back in February, so a repeat could soon well be on the cards for this very well handicapped horse.
