We have three runners at Sedgefield on Sunday, on what is currently described as soft, good to soft in places going.
Bunker Bay goes first at 1.40.pm, in the 0-100 novices handicap hurdle, over the extended two miles, with his regular rider Emma Smith-Chaston in the saddle. Bunker Bay won off a mark of 69 on the flat at Yarmouth back in July 2023, so his jumps mark of just 85 tells us that he is a very well handicapped horse. He is yet to show form to match that over jumps in four starts, but he is definitely at the right end of the handicap.
Worth The Walk was the winner of an Irish point to point in February of last year, having also finished runner up on a further two occasions. She has run down the field in two maiden hurdles for us in December and January, and she will be eligible for a handicap mark after this. Worth The Walk goes to post for the mares only novices hurdle at 2.40.pm, over the extended two miles and three furlong, with Conor O'Farrell retaining the ride.
Monaghan Boy was a model of consistency last season, when after finishing runner up three times in a row, his turn deservedly came over this course and distance in February, from 2lb lower than now. He was third on his seasonal reappearance at Wetherby after a seven months break in November, and he should build on that here. Monaghan Boy runs at 3.40.pm, in the 0-105 handicap chase, over three miles and two furlongs, with Emma Smith-Chaston, who has ridden him six times previously, taking the ride once again.
