Because of the uncertainty of the ground potentially not being soft enough, it was only decided around an hour before the race to let Knocknamona take his chance.
As expected he was taken off his feet in the early stages, but Conor O'Farrell never gave up and he crept in to the race fence by fence. The ground was obviously soft enough, but it is the very stiff uphill finish that made the difference, and it brought back memories of Knocknamona winning at Carlisle from a similar position in this corresponding race back in 2019.
This was Knocknamona's 10th win for us, and one of his best performances yet, at the age of 12. He is fast becoming a stable legend.
