We have four declared runners at Ayr on Monday, where the going is currently described as soft, heavy in places.
You Say Its Over has shown her best form with plenty of cut in the ground, with her best run coming at Catterick just over a year ago, when finishing a close second from a 4lb higher mark than now. She has failed to get fully competitive in three starts on good ground this term, hence the falling mark. You Say Its Over runs at 1.0.pm, in the 0-95 conditional jockeys handicap, over two miles and five furlongs, with her regular rider Josh Thompson in the saddle.
Shighness who has raced in Class 3 company on the last four occasions, including winning at Catterick last February, drops into Class 4 company, where the conditions appear to tick all the right boxes. Shighness made her seasonal reappearance at Carlisle last month, in her first run in nearly nine months, and she will be straighter this time. She runs at 2.0.pm, in the 0-120 handicap chase, over three miles, with Brian Hughes, who has won on her twice previously, retaining the ride.
We will be doubly represented at 3.10.pm, in 0-110 handicap hurdle, over two miles. Magnolia had 14 races over hurdles, where she won once, and also three over fences, between 2022-2024 in France, before arriving at the yard. She was a respectable sixth for us on her first start in nearly six months at Kelso last month, and will strip fitter this time, Brian Hughes will be on board for the first time.
Our other runner in the race is the ex French Kazar Forez, who makes his yard and British debut, where he will be partnered by Emma Smith-Chaston. Kazar Forez is a five year old gelding who has only raced on five occasions to date, including twice in handicap company, where on his latest start in June of last year, he was only beaten a neck into second place. With ex French horses it is always difficult to know how kind the handicapper has been, but he is entitled to need the run.
