We take four on the short journey up to Sedgefield on Thursday, where the going is currently described as soft.
It's an early start, with Belle Na Bann first up at 12.25.pm, in the 0-105 conditional jockeys handicap hurdle, over the extended two miles, with Josh Thompson able to claim the full 10lb. Belle Na Bann who is having her first start back in 153 days, finished runner up twice last season from higher marks than now, including once on ground that was described as soft. When trained elsewhere previously all of her form was on good ground.
Coup De Coeur has his second start for us since arriving from France, when going to post for the extended two miles maiden hurdle at 1.00.pm, with Danny McMenamin in the saddle for the first time. Coup De Coeur was having his first start in over 15 months when after making the running at Wetherby 22 days ago, where he weakened, and unfortunately came down three out. With that run under his belt, he should show a bit more of his previous useful French form this time.
We are doubly represented at 2.10.pm, in the 0-100 handicap chase, over two miles and three furlongs. Brickadank was far from disgraced over this course and distance 29 days ago, when finishing a 13 and a half lengths fourth to his stablemate Royle Steel. That was Brickadank's first start since May, so he will strip fitter this time. He is still looking for his first career win, but has gone close on previous occasions. The Champion jockey Brian Hughes, who has ridden him previously on one occasion, takes the ride.
Our other runner in the race is Contre Ordre who showed his best form for us on his latest start back in April, suggesting that he can take advantage of his tumbling handicap mark, which has fallen by 27lb since arriving from France around a year ago. He spent his time last season in Class 3, and Class 4 company, and will appreciate this drop in grade, with Emma Smith-Chaston, who was on board three times last season, back in the saddle.
