It's a busy day on Wednesday, with two declared for the first day of the Perth Festival, where the going is currently good, good to soft in places, down at Ludlow the going currently has the same description, and on the flat at Catterick, it is good to firm at the time of writing.
At Perth, Seeyainthesuninn goes first at 1.48.pm, in the maiden hurdle, over two miles and four furlongs, with Emma Smith-Chaston on board for the first time. Seeyainthesuninn whose future lies over fences and three miles plus, showed his first real form last time at Haydock when keeping on into fifth, some 18 lengths behind the winner, over a furlong further than now. Seeyainthesuninn is gradually learning what the game is all about, and will be eligible for a handicap mark after this.
Magnolia who was a winner in France over hurdles in 2023, has now run in three handicap hurdles for us since arriving at the yard last autumn. She appears to have run to a similar level on all three starts, but probably ran better than her finishing position last time at Wetherby, when after travelling easily she flattened out on the run in to finish a 14 lengths third. Her handicap mark is now 9lb below her opening mark, and further progress will see her in the shake up. Magnolia runs at 4.22.pm, in the 0-120 handicap hurdle, over two miles and four furlongs, with Brian Hughes back in the saddle.
At Ludlow, Carrigeen Castle is our representative in the 0-120 handicap chase at 3.38.pm, over the extended two miles and seven furlongs, with Alice Stevens who won on him at Wetherby last season back in the saddle. Carrigeen Castle was the winner of three races last season which saw his rating rise from 94 to 119, but he has failed to fire in three starts this term, which has seem his mark slip back to just 2lb above his last winning rating. The key factor is that he has now had a wind operation, so we could see the old Carrigeen Castle again.
At Catterick, Stellarmasterpiece came back to form in no uncertain terms over this course and distance two weeks ago, when winning from 3lb's lower than now by a neck. She had four uneventful runs over hurdles during the winter, but on a return to the flat, she more than matched the best of her form from last season. She has never run on ground with firm in the description, but rain is expected. Stellarmasterpiece runs at 4.35.pm, in the 0-65 handicap, over one mile and four furlongs, with Aiden Brookes retaining the ride.
