COCKNEY BEAU.

COCKNEY BEAU 21 March 2015 Cockney Rebel-Salsa Melody Owner-Cheerleader Racing

Cockney Beau is one of our young bumper horses. He is a French bred, by the dual English, and Irish 2000 Guineas winner of 2007, Cockney Rebel, out of the French Mare Salsa Melody, who spent the majority of her career taking on the best of company around Auteuil Racecourse, winning four times from 18 career starts. The mares only other representative on the racecourse has been the filly Guanabara, who is a winner from her only start over hurdles, back in 2018,earning a Racing Post Rating of 115, for her win at Auteuil.

Cockney Beau has raced four times to date, using up his full quota of bumper runs, with Becky Smith having ridden him on each occasion. He made a very promising start on his racecourse debut at Hexham last June, going off a very well fancied 9/2 shot, and only finding the Nicky Henderson trained Father John, a length and three quarters too good. After that initial run he was turned away for the remainder of the Summer, not seeing the track again until mid November at Catterick. in what looked a slightly better contest,

Cockney Beau once again ran with promise to finish third. He returned to Catterick just under a month later, once again filling out the third spot, but this time appearing to do his best work at the business end. His final appearance to date came at Sedgefield on January 10th, where after being prominent to three out he faded badly to finish a well beaten fifth of the nine. Maybe it was one race too many at that stage of his career, or maybe the ground was too soft, but after what will be a good long break, with a further chance to fully mature, this exiting prospect may well turn out to be quite a bit above average.
