We have three runners on Saturday, with the going at Cartmel, where we run two, currently described as good, and at Chester where we have one representative, it is also currently good ground.
Bannockburn has her second start for us since arriving from France, when going to post for the maiden hurdle at 1.40.pm, at Cartmel, over two miles and six furlongs, with Joshua Thompson taking the ride. Bannockburn showed some ability in her three runs in France, but finished tailed off for us on her British debut. She meets her rivals here on unfavourable terms, but she does already have a handicap rating of 88, which could be an attractive mark somewhere down the line.
Mister Bells came good for us on his fifth start since arriving from Ireland, when running out a convincing winner at Market Rasen on his penultimate start, but at Sedgefield 43 days ago he failed to fire. If he turns up in the same mood as he did at Market Rasen, then he will go close from a 3lb higher mark. He runs at 3.55, in the 0-110 handicap chase, over two miles and five furlongs, with Henry Brooke taking over from Emma Smith-Chaston, who is currently on the injury list.
At Chester Carnival Zain turns out again just seven days after finishing a respectable seventh at Thirsk. His current mark of 90 is still 4lb higher than when he last won back in August 2022, but he has been lucky with the draw, coming out of stall five, and this horse who loves to be up there with the pace, could make his stall advantage tell. He runs at 4.05.pm, in the Class 2 0-105 handicap, over the extended seven furlongs, with Billy Garritty taking the ride.
