We send one runner to Haydock on Saturday when the ex French Carnival Zain has his second start for us at 3.0.pm, in a 0-85 handicap over seven furlongs. Wearing a first time hood, which is retained, Carnival Zain made his stable debut for us at York 29 days ago over a mile, where after a slow start, he soon took a keen hold, he made his effort from two out, but flattened out inside the final furlong to finish a three and a half lengths sixth of the 19 runners. Under the circumstances he did well to finish as close as he did, and only time will tell whether this step down in trip will be in his favour. His decent French form suggests he stays a mile, and probably even further. The going at Haydock at the time of writing is good to firm, good in places, but Carnival Zain has never run on ground with firm in the description. He has form in France on a soft surface, so any rain would be a bonus, Billy Garritty who rode him last time retains the ride.
