Beat The Edge got the yard off to the perfect start this New Year when winning the 1.20.pm, at Catterick, just four days after finishing runner up over the same course and distance.
Beat The Edge is a consistent sort whose only quirk is that when he hits the front he has a tendency to think he has done enough, downs tools, and becomes a sitting duck, so all credit must go to his jockey Emma Smith-Chaston, who made sure that the horse kept his mind on the job and win by a length.
Another memorable day at Catterick was completed with Master Brefni, and Belle Na Bann both finishing second. Shadowfax Of Rohan finished fifth, and now is eligible for a handicap mark, while Bunker Bay, having his first start in seven months, was also fifth, and will come on for the race. Fainche was running her best race of the season when unfortunately falling at the sixth, and will be back to battle again in the not too distant future.
