A VERY MEMORABLE DAY AT CATTERICK

A memorable day was rounded off by Micky being presented with the prize for finishing as the leading trainer during the Catterick jumps season 2019/2020, thanks to the success of Strike West in the 4.20.pm under an excellent ride from Becky Smith. Our other two runners both finished second, the grey mare Ilaya probably improved again by being beaten a short head by the improving Zoutoise trying to give 12 pounds, and Foster'island also took a step forward when finishing second in the concluding bumper. But the highlight of the day was watching the magnificent Cornerstone Lad gallop after racing under Henry Brooke his partner at Cheltenham next week. Upon dismounting Henry said that the horse had never felt better.

We have three runners on Thursday. In the 2.15.pm at Carlisle The Pine Martin will be partnered by Emma Smith-Chaston in the Conditional/Amateurs handicap hurdle. The Pine Martin returned from a 922 day break in December finishing down the field at Newcastle, but returned there in January showing the benefit of that race by finishing an eye catching third, he should be very competitive on Thursday.

At the same venue in the 5.10.pm it is the turn of out two mile chaser Black Kettle who will be ridden by his regular pilot Alain Cawley. Since joining us from Rebecca Menzies yard he is proving to be a model of consistency, not finishing out of the first three in all but one of his last six races. He is most definitely due a win, and surely it is just a matter of time.

Our final runner on Thursday goes in the 2.35.pm on the sand at Southwell. Convivial will be having her first run on the surface on what will be her third flat race, meaning she is eligible for a handicap mark after this, Dougie Costello takes the ride.Good luck to all of the connections.
