A TRIBUTE TO LARRY LOOBY.

Larry Looby who meant so much to so many people, sadly succumbed to a rupture which caused sever colic, and we lost him on Monday, after he had been rushed to the vets.

Before arriving at Oakwood stables in the autumn of 2021, Larry Looby had raced on 19 occasions in Ireland, over fences, hurdles, and in bumpers, with his best run coming when winning a point to point in November 2018 on his fourth start. His best form under rules in Ireland was a 10 and a half lengths seventh of 11 at Tramore on his penultimate Irish start, hence is opening mark of 84 when making his debut for us at Carlisle in February 2022.

It was from a reduced mark of 72 that Larry Looby won the first of five races between June 2022, to October 2022, including four wins in a row, which saw his mark shoot up all the way to 101, with all five of those wins coming with Emma Smith-Chaston, who got on so well with him, in the saddle.

My own personal memory of Larry Looby was his spectacular rounds of jumping around Cartmel racecourse where he won twice, putting in some wonderful leaps, and gaining lengths at each fence. Larry Looby will be very much missed by his connections, but those wonderful memories will live on forever.
