Fin, from Loughrea in County Galway, joined us as a conditional jockey in the spring of 2015. He previously worked for Charlie Swan in Ireland and rode a point-to-point winner aboard Where’d Ya Hide It in a maiden at Ballingarry in June 2014 before coming to England to ride for Malcolm Jefferson.
Fin is a natural talent in the saddle, particularly over fences, and he gave Alderbrook Lad a really lovely ride to register his first winner under Rules in a £12,500 handicap chase at Cartmel in June 2015, judging the pace perfectly from the front.
He went on to ride 17 winners during 2015/16, eleven of which were in handicap chases, a brilliant effort in his first full season. He rode for 24 different trainers which highlights the high regard in which he’s held and the standout among many excellent rides was a sparkling treble at Sedgefield in February aboard Oscar O’Scar, Verko and Roxyfet.
Fin got his claim down to 5lbs with his 20th winner on Fred Le Macon for Martin Todhunter in September 2016 but he's still got plenty of winners to go before he loses his claim altogether and he'd love to challenge for the conditional jockeys' championship at some stage.
He's committed to his fitness, spending plenty of his spare time in the gym and going for a run most evenings, he has a fantastic attitude to his job and we think he's one of the most exciting up and coming riders in the north.
