Just Cameron set for long trip to Ludlow

21st March 2018

Paul and Jean Chapman’s Castleford Chase winner Just Cameron is off on a 400 mile round trip tomorrow as he makes his first ever visit to Ludlow.

The high class eleven year old would comfortably have made the cut for last week’s Grand Annual at Cheltenham, but he’s always seemed more at home in these small field two mile races and hopefully this five runner contest will be right up his street.

With the exception of the seven year old Space Oddity, Just Cameron will be taking on fellow veterans in the £13,600 race (4.10), he has to shoulder top weight but that didn’t stop him winning twice at Wetherby last year and he’s still quite nicely handicapped. He has ground conditions to suit and he’ll be ridden by his regular partner Joe Colliver.

Just Cameron can make the running if necessary but this doesn’t look likely to be tactical with Notarfbad and Spock, who’s almost two stones out of the handicap, both likely pacesetters.

Notarfbad and Tornado In Milan arrive in top form having won last time out, but neither have ever won a chase off a mark as high as tomorrow’s, a comment which also applies to Space Oddity, whose early mistake at Fontwell last month left Copain De Classe to hack round alone for the best part of two miles.

Harry Fry’s runner is the least exposed in the field, however, and has age on his side but Just Cameron looks to have a lot going for him and hopefully his big road trip will be worthwhile!
