Oakwood Minions

imagesOakwood Minions is our all new, exciting racing club for 2016! Members will instantly love our imposing new seven year old gelding Major Ridge, a lightly raced novice over hurdles and fences, while Trendsetter is a quality dual purpose recruit and you might remember the other club horse, Summerlea, who is back in full training and raring to go again after a period on the sidelines….with three lightly raced horses on your side who knows what might happen!

Ongoing membership of Oakwood Minions costs just £80 per month, which works out at just £20 per week, which is an all inclusive payment. It’s basically the full ownership experience for a fraction of the usual cost and we’ll do everything we can to give you an experience to remember as part of one of the friendliest, most committed teams in racing here in the heart of the beautful Yorkshire Dales!

Major Ridge

P1720814Major Ridge is a recent acquisition from the Doncaster sales. He’s a lovely, big seven year old gelding by Indian Danehill out of a Be My Native mare and he’s not had much racing yet which is understandable given his size!

He’s a novice over hurdles and fences, having had just three runs over timber and five in chases, he was previously owned and trained by Robert Bewley in the Scottish Borders and he’s raced only on soft ground so far. His best days are all ahead of him and we like what we’ve seen in the short time he’s been in the yard.

Joe Colliver and Henry Brooke have already ridden Major Ridge in races and both recommended that we should buy him.

P1480626Little chestnut Summerlea is ready for a belated return to the racecourse and will be resuming his hurdling career this winter.

A Flat winner in Ireland, we bought “Leo” for just £800 from Patrick Holmes back in 2013 and he quickly became a big favourite in the yard with his all action style and willing attitude which brought him a hurdles win under Catherine Walton at Catterick as well as four second places from just nine starts in the Straightline Construction colours a couple of seasons back.

Summerlea (pictured right) is a ten year old gelding with very few miles on the clock and you’ll love him to bits, we think he’s still feasibly handicapped on the Flat and over jumps and this completely genuine hold up performer will be trying his level best to give club members plentyskysports-to-be-wild_3814305-2 of enjoyment and excitement over the coming months!

We recently claimed five year old Mastercraftsman gelding Trendsetter (right) out of John Quinn’s yard for £16,000 after he won by four lengths over a mile and a half at Catterick.

Trendsetter has won four times from eighteen starts on the Flat and has also flirted briefly with novice hurdling, in addition to that wide margin win he’s been successful three times in handicaps over 1m6f and is currently rated 89 on the level and 113 over timber. He’s won on good to firm and soft ground and he’ll be a fantastic dual purpose horse, hopefully running right through the year.

He ran a blinder on his debut for us in a good quality handicap at Doncaster and there are exciting times ahead judged on that!
